Large infrastructure improvements can be an overwhelming undertaking for small communities. Trying to juggle aging infrastructure concerns, future community needs, and limited budgets often leaves communities feeling like there are no feasible alternatives. Lynch & Associates is working with the City of Gillett to tackle these obstacles. Over two miles of utility and roadway reconstruction are planned over the next few years.
The City received a USDA-Rural Development SEARCH grant worth $30,000 to assist in the planning efforts for the project including addressing environmental concerns, easement acquisitions, preliminary utility layout, and cost estimates.
Lynch & Associates then worked with the City to apply for funding through the Rural Utility Service of the USDA-Rural Development. The City has secured a $567,000 grant for utility improvements, $840,000 low interest loan and a $1.34 Million dollar loan from USDA for water system improvements. “Without these funds, the City would not be able to upgrading the aging infrastructure under their roads without causing a financial hardship for its residents” says Sarah Nunn, project manager for Lynch & Associates.
